Im trying to find a fix for a very tricky problem relating to Framemaker +SGML 6 and Acrobat/Distiller 5. I work for a company that developed an application for another company that involves a Database creating SGML code that is then templated with Framemaker and run through Distiller 5 to create a PDF which is then sent to a print company that creates a book of the thing. The problem is that randomly, something like 1 in 50 PDFs of this book has a page number that is printed in the Helvetica instead of the correct font, Helvetica Black. Its not always the same page, and it doesnt seem to correlate with the content of that page in anyway. Understand that the Page Numbers are all perfect in Framemaker, which must mean that the database and SGML cant be the problem. The problem has to lie in the way Framemaker 6 sends the content to Distiller 5 or the way Distiller 5 creates a PDF. So Ive been tasked with finding a solution to this problem that doesnt involve paying someone to look at every page of every PDF and check the font of the page number. There are a couple ways I could solve this problem: Option 1: I could recommend that this company upgrade its Acrobat version and/or its Framemaker version, But Id need proof that spending the money for software upgrade will, with out a doubt, fix their problem. Option 2: I could find some software to preflight these PDFs and take the place of that person looking through each page. The challenge there is that this is a difficult preflight procedure to write. It needs to make sure that the Header section of every page is in Helvetica Black not Helvetica. I could easily search the document for the offending font, Helvetica, but it appears all over the document. I need a way to search only a particular part of a PDF for a font and spit out an error if its there. Ive done a little research into tagged PDF and if there was a way to search and make sure a tag didnt use a certain font, that would work, But Im sure Adobe Arcobat 6s Preflight feature wont let me right that preflight procedure. Is there any other Preflight software that is more versatile and would let me search the PDF that way? Has anyone seen a similar problem? Im getting Stuck, Big thanks ahead of time for any Help, Jake
