I've not heard of any problems that result from unusual filenames, but that's certainly possible.

It's most likely that some structure in your file is causing the problem. I'd start by deleting some of the elements and try to rebuild .. when it works put the deleted content back and delete less of it. Repeat this process until you can isolate the problems.
