Getting Started with FrameMaker 8 and DITA

Hello,
I am learning structured FrameMaker, using FrameMaker 8 (I downloaded the trial), and would like to learn more about DITA and using it in FrameMaker 8. I have been reading OASIS documents, IBM developerWorks, the Adobe tutorials and manual, etc. but I still need more information.

If we buy FrameMaker 8, is that all we need? Do we need a CMS? Do we need the Open Toolkit? Or is FrameMaker 8 a standalone product that will create PDFs and other files from the structured files?

We are a small software company and I am one of two technical writers here. Another writer is using RoboHelp to create and update the online help. I need to create user manuals for different end users. The information in the user manuals will also need to go in the online help. We have updates to the software a few times per year and need to update all the end user documentation for each upgrade.

I am working on a new (year 2008) Dell PC using Windows XP.

Thank you for any resources you can tell me about.
