Is it possible to have an example in a conbody followed by paragraphs? We are trying to add an example followed by paragraphs within a conbody. However, our doc is invalid when we try to do this. So, we added example to the conbody element in the EDD and deleted the (section | example) child element. Now our document validates within the doc; however, when you try to save the doc you get an error that refers to the (section | example) that we deleted. We're new at this, so any help you can give is appreciated.

Hi Mary... You should think of the example element like a section element. Once you add either one to a conbody, all you can add from that point on is more sections or examples. The idea is that example (and section) are just containers for other content. Within the example element you can add paragraphs ( element) and most other elements. The fact that you can type textual (inline) content directly into an example can be a bit confusing .. I'd try to avoid that. Just use the example as a container for additional elements that provide the example content. If you want to have non-example content after the example, add a section element then put p elements (or whatever) inside of that. You can customize your EDD so that these "inline" elements and text are not allowed to force your writers to use just the block-level elements. This will keep your files more regular and understandable. Cheers, ...scott

Scott, Thanks for the quick response. I guess we were trying to make things more difficult than they had to be. Mary

Hi Mary... DITA can make things more complicated than they need to be since in some cases it has way more options than are really useful. Cheers, ...scott
