What is the best building block to use to get an entry to show uop like this in a LOF.

Figure number 1-1 (figures name).................(page number)

I figure the page number would just be <$pagenum> but what about the rest.

Try: Figure number <$chapnum>-<$paranumonly> <$paratext> [tab]
<$pagenum>

Did you re-generate your book/files? It only works then.

Yep I hot the re-generate button under the book menu. The only thing that changes is the font and size.

Does the paratag for this TOC entry point to the actual figure name
with an autonumber?

If not, then you have to explicitly add the paratag name to the
building blocks, e.g. <$paranumonly[paratag]>. FM will then search
*backwards* (i.e. towards the start of the document) from the paratag
of the TOC entry until it satisfies the match. If the desired tags in
the source document are after the paratag used for the TOC entry, then
you have to pick a paratag that comes after those or one of those
making up the figure information.

When I create the document the only thing that comes onto the body page is the name of the figure with a page number. Then in the reference page there is no figure number LOF until I put it to the reference page myself. Even then like I said before the only thing that updates is the font and weight of the font.

Thanks for your help. I made another table of contents and just renamed it to List of figures. That worked out. Thank you for showing me about all that other stuff. By the way where is the best place to learn how to use Framemaker aside from stumbling through it.

Ed,

Try to get Adobe's ClassRoom in a Book for FrameMaker as a good
starting point. There's also an online set of tutorials from
Scriptorium at http://wiki.scriptorium.com/tiki-index.php

Scriptorium also has an excellent reference book on FM for both v.7 &
8, see either of the Publishing Fundamentals listings at
http://store.scriptorium.com/items/Books/list.htm

Adobe's FrameMaker training resources are at:
http://www.adobe.com/products/framemaker/training.html

Adobe also has a number of tutorials and other material online at:
