I have a legacy automation process on Unix that is used to create PDF files for over 800 spec sheets. Perl scripts use fmbatch 5.5.6 to open a master FM file with PDF generation setups, then open each spec sheet in turn, and write each one out as a PDF file. Alternatively, code can be switched on to write out a PS file and call distiller 5.5.6 to generate a PDF file from it. All this goes to hell with FrameMaker 7.x. 1. Adobe didn't see fit to include distiller 7.x. 2. fmbatch 7.x doesn't seem to apply the master file like it did with fmbatch. It will generate a PDF file but the PDF setups in the master file that govern things like bookmarks, do not get applied. Adding insult to injury, Adobe 6.x catalog does not generate full text search that will work on the PDF viewer for UNIX. Does this degeneration of tools signal some unannounced anti-UNIX direction Adobe has embarked on similar to its abandonment of the Apple platform? Or, is there a different way to thread the needle to get the desired results? If so, can someone outline it or give a reference, if one exists. Thanks, in advance. Tim
