I am working in UNIX FrameMaker 7.1 . I would like to know whether I can import the FrameMaker files from windows into UNIX and continue working without any problem. Is there any compantability issues? Thank you in advance. Regards, Jagadeesh

The files should be binary compatible. Simply open them on your Unix machine. The only issue may be in the font names used between platforms. Make adjustments in the maker.ini file to map the names as described in the documentation. See the Multiple_Platforms.pdf in the \OnlineManuals folder.

Jagadeesh, be aware that the UNIX FM 7.x lacks the option to tailor the font attributes in a way similar to the Windows maker.ini file (the Windows to Frame aliases section). FM 7.1 on UNIX (at least the Solaris variant) uses some hard coded algorithm to determine a font's attributes from the font file (.pfa or .pfb) itself. These routines seem broken to me (or is there a plausible reason for why e.g. a font "Helvetica-BoldOblique" is tagged as having the Family name "Helvetica", the weight "regular", the angle "regular" and the variation "BoldOblique"?). Sadly enough, this behaviour cannot be overwritten by editing the fontlist file (as it was standard up to FM 6.x). But don't be too discouraged: as long as you stick to font attributes like "plain" (regular), "bold", and "italic" (this is the exhaustive set known by Windows), you are on the right side of the border. Helge

Also, the support for graphic formats differs a bit. I don't know about FM 7, but previously FM on Unix couldn't import PDF files. Windows-only formats like BMP may cause problems, and some TIFF versions.
