I work also with French documents, and the hyphenation was a bit buggy with early builds of FM8. Make sure you have the latest updates. Also (as Sheila says) we can�t see your examples; but I have noticed that minimum before/minimum after rules seem to count punctuation marks as letters, so �pr�sen-te).� with parenthesis and full-point following the -te is counted as four characters after the hyphen.
