I'm having a heck of a time getting paragraph numbers to show up correctly in Framemaker 7.0.

Here's what I would love to see:

For every paragraph tagged "Head1", autonumber with chapter number + dot + Head 1 iteration. Example: "1.1", "1.2", "1.3", etc.

For every paragraph tagged "Head2", autonumber with chapter number + dot + preceding Head 1 iteration + dot + Head 2 iteration. Example: "1.1.1", "1.1.2", "1.1.3", etc.

So the page would like something like:
Chapter 1
  1.1
  1.2
     1.2.1
     1.2.2
  1.3

And so on.

I've been trying autonumber formats in the Paragraph Designer, as well as Cross References and I'm getting horribly inconsistent results. What's the best approach to take for something like this? The problem I'm running into is that, as in the above example, section 1.1 may not have sub-sections. If so, the building block doesn't substantiate and so shows up as "0" in subsequent sections. In addition, since building blocks have only one "n", that means I can't use "1.2.2" and instead have to use "1.B.2", so that Head1 can iterate on a different variable. Does that make sense?
