Years ago, working with 1200 ppi B&W TIFF scans, I got frustrated with waiting 60 seconds or more for each scan to redraw as I scrolled through pages. So I started saving my scans in EPS. EPS stores the full resolution scan for printing and PDF, but onscreen in Frame it displays only the low-res header. Result: lightning-quick low-quality display with no final output quality sacrifice.
