Arnis, Thank you for explaining the maker.ini strategy. After a fair amount of experimenting, I finally figured out how to create the desired alias, say, Arial Italic. However, I also discovered that there's a flaw in the scheme, and I'm wondering if there's a solution to the flaw. I figured out that what you meant to say is the following: Arial, Italic, Regular = Arial Italic, Regular, Regular, Regular For the benefit of the arbitrary reader, I'll explain what this means. There are two sides to the line: the part to the left of the equal sign, and the part to the right. The LHS refers to the italic font of the Arial family, since the first field after the font name is for angle and the second is for weight. The RHS refers to an alias "Arial Italic", with the three fields to the right referring to the drop-down menu choices for the alias: angle, weight, and variation. If a field has the entry "*", then all possible choices for the field will be available. So far so good, but now for the flaw. The flaw is that the aliased font is removed from the font family, so in this case, the Arial font family no longer has the italic font available. Do you know of a solution to the problem? If there's no solution in FM, we could solve the problem if we could create an alias in the operating system. I'm using FM 7.2 under Windows XP. Philip
