Mats,

I do double-sided printing and have all the custom master pages, unused and used, saved in each document and have no problems with the numbering. So, I do not know why you are having the problem.

I have noticed that when a document has no content on the last page, and I reformat the document with custom master pages, the last (empty) page is deleted. Then when I save the file, an extra page is added at the end to make the page count even, and this last page has the default left master page, not the custom one. So, I have to reformat with the custom master pages again to get that last page correct.

That being said, your second file should still begin at page 3, but for some reason, Frame thinks the first file has only one page. I realize that I am not offering a solution, but just suggest that you make sure document 1 does indeed have an even number of pages.

I always do my book updating with all the files closed. If you have document 1 open, and do the reformatting as described above, but do not save it before updating, then you might get the results you have. That is, the reformatting causes the last page to be deleted and the updating does not add the extra page to make the count even. I maybe grasping at straws here, but it may be worthwhile to check it out.
