While using the Windows 3.1 setting will work, there are some reasons why I would not use it. The first is that you are limited to the 8.3 file names, a limitation one could give up years ago. The second is that there are some networks where it won't work. I never figured out why, but some Novell networks report that it can't write a file. Seems odd, since it's just a simple limitation on the file names, but anyway, it can cause problems. The third is that if you pass your work to someone with who uses the Win9x/Win2K setting and they generate files, they may not work if they are passed back to you. In fact, Frame 7 doesn't even allow the old Win 3x name convention. I would use the Win9x/2K file name system and get used to it.
