We have a distributed worldwide network of servers and drives, some configured as RAIDs. Only special manufacturing databases are mirrored. The FrameMaker document is published in PDF format and a link posted on a page on the Intranet, which can be accessed worldwide. The PDF file and the non-FrameMaker documents are stored on a network drive (Mcofnp01/Eng_drawings/FWTT_Released_Documents/sub-dir/filename.ext) physically located in Colorado. With the limit of 22 drive letters it is not possible to map all of the drives on the worldwide network to everyones PC. The purpose of the hypertext link in the document is to open another document that is referenced without the reader having to know where on the worldwide network the file is physically located, or having to find the page on the Intranet where the document is linked. Not all documents are posted on the Intranet. On the HTML page the hyperlink uses file://Mcofnp01/Eng_drawings/FWTT_Released_Documents/sub-dir/filename.ext, which is the exact network address of the document to be viewed.
