I've been told that when I use .tif graphics in my manuals that I should NOT save with LZW Compression (because I was having trouble with my graphics not printing clearly). I have a manual with roughly 100 graphics printed to .ps and made into a pdf using graphics saved in RGB mode as .tif files with LZW Compression on. My .pdf file ended up being 3,854KB (not bad) but I had all my resolutions turned way down on my ps printer and in Acrobat Distiller. The printed graphics turned out bad. I re-saved all my graphics in gray-scale mode (to cut down the file size) but then turned LZW Compression off. I also turned up the resolution on my ps printer and in Acrobat Distiller. Thinking my pdf file size would be significantly smaller because of saving my images in gray scale, I was amazed that that it actually increased to 20,543KB (too big). The up-side to thins is that my graphics are all printing nicely now. The enigma is whether I can contribute the higher quality printing to the increase in printer and distiller resolution settings or the fact that I turned OFF LZW Compression when I re-saved my images... Should I take the time to re-save all the images AGAIN with LZW Compression turned back on? I need smaller pdf file sizes but I need to keep the print quality. I want to credit turning up the resolution on my printer and distiller fo rhte higher quality printing but it could be that I turned off LZW Compression when I re-saved the images. Any thoughts? Bill
