Which is why PDF is ideal. When an update is complete, create a PDF of it. The PDF will have the last revised date on it, and everyone will have the same dated copy. I recently left a company that used a "last printed" date field on their specifications. I can't begin to tell you how much fun those spec reviews were... the first 10 minutes were spent making sure everyone had the same spec despite the date differences.
