Jason, 

I create named destinations in Frame by using pdfmark commands. Shlomo Perets' TimeSavers lets me use hypertext markers to hold my pdfmark commands. My method to create destinations is different from yours, but in the PDF, I do not think that the creation method matters. I use underscores in my destinations with no problem. I'm using FM 6, Acrobat 5.05 on WinNT4.
