FIGURE NUMBERING

I'm using FrameMaker 6.0. I have several files in a book, and I want the figure numbering to be incremental, and not restart with "Figure 1" in each file. I have tried setting numbering properties for each file to "continue numbering from previous." That works fine for page numbers, but the figure numbers restart at "1." What am I doing wrong?

Thanks so much for your help.
