Sean and Arnis, Call me stupid. It's okay, my wife does all the time. MathType has several "save as" types, one of which is eps/tiff. This one creates the preview image of the eps which subsequently shows up in FM. No more gray boxes. I could have sworn I tried all save as types before committing to a certain one, but I may have done that in MathType 4.0. I switched to 5.0 not too long ago and probably never checked again. Now, I just have open and save 500 equations. Let's see, one every 10 seconds; that's 6 each minute which is 360 an hour. Looks like a pretty boring two hours of work (I've allotted for some sit-back-rub-my-eyes-I'm-going-blind time). Arnis, Yeah, I tried changing the mathchar.cfg file by making a copy of the Symbol font configs and changing all the Symbol designations to Euclid Symbol and all the Times designations to Adobe Garamond Pro. Worked okay except some of the Equation Editor commands didn't work correctly. This is probably where I needed to tweak the menu commands as you stated. I gave up before getting into that. My point is that it just shouldn't be that difficult. I also don't like the kerning in the equations. For example, if I choose and over-under fraction, and then I place a "V subscript j" variable in the numerator, the "j" will run into the dividing line. This is just one of many examples I could come up with. IMO, if FM is determined to have a built in equation editor, then they should just copy the capabilities that MathType has. Otherwise, do what Word did. Contract MathType to create the equation editor. I know FM can use OpenType fonts. I'm actually using Adobe Garamond Pro as my main body text. I just want all the automatic capabilities that InDesign provides, i.e. the ligatures, old style numerals, etc. that are processed on-the-fly. To me, this is a very nice feature in InDesign. Here's my cross-reference problem. It seems to be isolated to cross-references within the same document. For example, I have a cross-reference that places the paragraph number of an equation within paratheses. It shows up fine in FM. The marker appears as it should in the paragraph containing the equation. When converting to pdf, the link destination is lost. In fact, distiller gives me a warning the destination is lost, something like "tree-dest name not found" or "tree-destination missing" or something like that. What I get in the pdf file is only the link source, i.e. you can see the box around the cross-reference in the body text. However, the link does not take you to the destination, which is the equation itself. Only happens on a handfull of links, most of them work as they should. Any ideas?
