Poor graphic quality in pdf

Folks,

I've searched the forum and the archives, but I can't find my problem.

With FM6, patched, and the Acrobat 5 distiller, I can't get decent quality from screen captures. I've read Sean's tome and tried several things.

The graphics are screen captures in the .gif format from a gif generator built into my company's seismic data-gathering software that I'm documenting. No possibility of any change in that process.

The pages in FrameMaker look fine, but the same page in the pdf looks fuzzy, and would look horrible when copied.

I even tried several compressions with no better results, and I just tried it with no compression. Other than increasing my pdf file size by 4, the results don't look any better. Body text looks fine.

Printed on LJ6.

Help appreciated.
