When I say "will not work" I mean that when I (1) place a decimal tab on the ruler, (2) enter a number that includes a decimal in a table cell, and (3) hit the tab key in while the cursor is in the cell, the cursor moves to the next cell in the table and the number does NOT align under the decimal. The tab decimal alignment does work outside the table just as you mention.
