Thanks Arnis,

I think I have my solution. The job is not mine, it's a co-workers. The last color job I did in FM Win was 2-color, with colored text. I pre-separated the FrameMaker files and created PS from that.

In this case, the blue doesn't have to match anything, it just has to be consistent with itself and not ugly.

All I heard about the press was "Scitex," dunno more than that.

And, a change was thrown in, in that the decision has apparently been made to include some of the TIFFs in color, too, as well as FrameMaker text. The TIFF color thing has me curious about whether Photoshop for Windows can be used to create Photoshop EPS that is CMYK.

My involvement in this came about because I overheard that the FM Win 5.5.6 project in question was now going to use color, and I think I put a damper on the party that followed that decision. I noted that moving to color was a significant change and recommended that Macs might be used as the platform for future color FrameMaker projects.

In any event, I have forwarded my recommendations based on the advice I've gotten here and on Framers, namely:

1) You can output a composite PDF from Windows and work with the printing service to test and address any issues. I am not a big fan of this.

2) You can buy and use Colour Chameleon to fix the RGB issues and create CMYK in the PDFs.

3) You can move the book to one of our Macs and output the PDF from there. This was my original suggestion yesterday, when I first heard of the plan to make this project (not mine) color, and it remains my favorite. Yes, we do have two Macs hanging around with seats of FrameMaker. My only reservation is that the project in question is FrameMaker 5.5.6 and I'm not sure if the Macs have that or version 6.

Thanks Arnis,

Cheers,

Sean
