text disappearing at bottom of page

I reformatted my page margins to leave more space, thus pushing everything down throughout the document. On page 21 of a 50+ page document, several paragraphs just disappeared at bottom of page. When I place my cursor at the last visible line and push the down arrow on my keyboard, it moves down through the footer and disappears. As a temporary fix, I deleted a line at a time, moving the missing text up into the visible zone till it was all gone; then I inserted a page break and put it in the next page. But if I try to add anything to the doc before page 21, it pushes more text into the twilight zone. What caused this, and how do I get rid of it?
