Hi Shibu

Are you using Adobe Bembo? If so, it's because there's a kerning pair in the font for (full point, space). If you're not up on kerning pairs, this means that when a full point is followed by a space, there's an instruction in the font file to effectively make the space smaller. (Even if you're not using Adobe Bembo, this is likely the answer.)

There are several solutions. One is to turn off pair kerning in the paragraph designer (under the "default font" tab). But this is not the best idea, because the font designer has gone to a lot of trouble to optimise the letterspacing across a wide range of letter combinations. You're best just turning the pair kerning off whenever a full point is followed a space, and you can do this by creating a character tag with no pair kerning. But this is a major hassle, especially in a big document. Your last option is to edit the font file and remove the offending kern pair. You can do this in various font editing programs, but for some of them you have to open the font and this can cause a loss of data when you resave it (it can especially affect screen display).

It would be nice if FM had a kerning editor (as some other DTP programs do), because then you could make the change nice and quickly and without changing the font itself. But it doesn't, so you have the options outlined above. (Or you could just learn to love the smaller spaces.)

Cheers, Dominic
