Page-numbering weirdness

Folks,

I finally got a format with consecutive page numbering approved, so that my page numbers match the .pdf page numbers. Trying to make my manual look like a "real" book, I decided to number the front-matter tables with little Roman numerals.

Good/bad idea! Under Format>Numbering>Page, I've tried to tell the toc, tof, and tot to number in Roman, but make the numbers consecutive. So I change format to little Roman, then click on Continue ... When I do, the thing changes to First Page. I then change it back to Continue, and save the file. Next time I open it, it has changed. So I've gotten TOCs with Roman page numbers for the topics, and arabic for the TOC page numbers, and several other unwanted combinations. Almost makes me think I'm using Word.

I finally "fixed" it by just accepting the First page, thing.

Is there a better way? FM 6, W2000 Pro.
