Hello Mrs. Venczel,

upgrading your version of FrameMaker should not affect your cross references. If they work in FM7 documents, they will work in FM8.

But there is one thing to remember: In order to resolve cross references, FM needs to be able to open the file containing the target of the cross references.

If you have, e.g. 2 books having cross-references to each other,
and you just migrate one book to FM8, and the other one remains in FM7.2, this will result in the following:
1. during resolving cross-references, FM8 encounters a reference to a different file.
2. As this file is still in FM7 format, it will signal an error, that it can�t open the file (the same kind of error that occurs, when e.g. fonts are missing).

3. The target file will not be opened, so the cross reference will not be resolved.
=> So although the cross references themselves can potentially migrated, they appear "broken", although they aren�t.

If you migrate all the relevant material from one FM version to another, everything will work well.
