Space between paragraphs - why different for styles with same settings?

I'm trying to understand why the spacing after two paragraphs with different styles, but identical line-spacing settings, differs.

From Paragraph Designer:

Body Style
AGaramond, 11.5 pt., above pgf: 2 pt., below pgf: 2 pt., line spacing 13.5 pt.

Bullet Style
AGaramond, 11.5 pt., above pgf: 2 pt., below pgf: 2 pt., line spacing 13.5 pt., uses automatic format \b\t

Code Style
Helv. Condensed, 10 pt., above pgf: 0 pt., below pgf: 0 pt., line spacing 12 pt.

The space between Body and Code is much smaller than the space between Bullet and Code:

Body paragraph
small space
Code paragraph

Bullet paragraph
big space
Code paragraph

I want Bullet to have the same spacing as Body.

I'm using Frame 7.2 and WinXP.

Any advice appreciated!

Is Line Spacing set for Fixed in all of these?

And, to you have Text Symbols turned on, so you can see any extra returns?

Line Spacing Fixed checked or not makes no difference.

Text Symbols are on and there are no extra paragraph marks.

Are the paragraphs on different pages? Or different columns on the same page?

If not, you may have feathering turned on under Format > Page Layout > Line Layout. Space is added between paragraphs to justify the text vertically on the page.

I don't think I can duplicate this without turning off Line Spacing >
Fixed, and setting the bullet (or something else on the line) for a
larger size.

The only other thing I can think of (but you must have already checked
this) is that the bullet paragraph has a line spacing override. When you
select the bullet paragraph and go to Paragraph Designer, do you see
line spacing 13.5?

Or that this is in a table?

Or that you're comparing paragraph combinations on two different pages
and you've got Feathering turned on?

If you want to zip up your file and send it to me (kbenson at pegtype
dot com) or post it somewhere, I'd be happy to take a look.

I can't explain it well right now, but this is happening because some of
the paragraphs are defined to use the column space, and some are defined
to use the column plus sidehead space.

Anything that spans columns (or sidehead space) has to clear space so it
doesn't overprint text that does not span columns, so spacing doesn't
work by the same rules. That said, I'm not sure if I could spell out how
spacing *is* supposed to work in these situations, except to say that
your problem will go away if you make all your paragraphs either use the
column or use the sidehead space plus column.

If you have a true sidehead, then you get to choose the vertical
alignment, so spacing shouldn't be an issue. Otherwise, I don't see why
you need to span the sidehead space but then indent past it. I would put
all three of these paragraphs in the column only.
