Configuring Anchored Frames

I'm referencing graphics by using the 'File > Import > File > Import by Reference > (Set) Scaling' method rather than drawing an anchored frame, aligning, importing the graphic, and shrink-wrapping.

The default position and alignment for the anchored frame is Below Current Line & Centered. However, since our department's style has now changed to left-aligned graphics, I want to change the default alignment. I can't find a governing property in the maker.ini file or anyplace else. Is it possible to change the default alignment?

techscribe,

Perhaps the ImpGraph plugin would help you:

Here's an alternative without using ImpGraph or any other plugin:

Set up a paragraph tag with whatever settings you want except that line spacing is not fixed. Call it for example Graphics. It should be left-aligned for your purposes.

When you import your graphics, always insert them in a paragraph tagged with Graphics (the paragraph will usually contain only the illustration). The graphic is automatically placed in an anchored frame fi you import it into the text flow.

Don't worry about the default placing of the imported graphic. Press Esc m p (shrink-wrap): the frame is automatically set to At insertion point with zero distance above baseline.

The nice thing about this approach is that your graphic objects obey the formatting of the Graphics tag. If you want a centered or right-aligned graphic, change the tag definition. It also gives you consistent spacing above and below the graphics (this is also controlled by the tag definition).

Works like a charm! You can also apply the Graphics tag after importing the illustrations, provided that your graphics are imported in-line in text.
