I am currently using FrameMaker 8.0 and have had a problem with the auto numbering of tables.
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to auto number tables using different chapter numbers within the one document?
I know that it is possible to do this when the chapters are seperate documents within one book.
E.g.
First page - Chapter 1
Table 1.1
Table 1.2
Next page - Chapter 2
Table 2.1
Table 2.2 etc.
For some reason when I try to do this any tables under Chapter 2 are still named Table 1.1 and Table 1.2 etc.
I have tried using a series but that still does not seem to work.
Any help would be appreciated!

If you use the same sequence identifier for the Chapter heading and the Table numbering, this should do the trick. C:[n+][ =0] for the Chapter heading C:[n].[n+] for the Table heading (replace square brackets with angle brackets, of course) My preference would almost always be for one chapter per file, though, unless I was aiming for a rather odd layout where Chapters must not require a page-throw.

Nils' method would work if you're using numbering counters for the Chapter numbers, but not if you're using the more standard <$chapnum> variables. The easiest solution would be to break that file into two chapters, so you're working more as the software is designed. Is there a reason that you think Chapter 1 and 2 have to be in the same file? Thank you both so much this helped a great deal. However, I am still having trouble with one file in the book. It seems to be repeating the same chapter number not adding one when the style appears again. E.g. Page 1 has Chapter 1 (C:Chapter <n+>)

So you _are_ working with a book! As both Art and I have said, one chapter per file is the usual and comfortable way to go. Go with that approach, and the answer to your second question probably becomes "in the .book file, check the numbering properties of File B". Right-click on the File B line in the .book, select Numbering from the context menu and take a look at the Chapter tab
