With the help of one of the forum members, I've figured out how to get change bars to alternate sides on odd/even pages, but there doesn't seem to be anything in the manual about how to apply change bars to art. How is that done?

Change bars are applied to text as specified by either paragraph or
character formats. They won't register for graphic objects.

However, if you could always insert/update some non-printing text in
the paragraph holding the anchor whenever the graphic is changed.
