FM 7.0 Build Element's Value from a Series of Attributes

I've had several people tell me this wasn't possible, but it seems like such a common-sense feature that I thought I'd ask here. I have an element that has four attributes associated w/ it and no TEXT value. I want to set the value of that element to a concatenation of the four attributes.

As an example:

<FullName FirstName="Brian" LastName="Popp"/>

and I want this to display:

Brian Popp

I've considered using elements instead of attributes, but in this case I need to default some of the values, so attributes seem a little cleaner.

In many of the EDD's I've looked at, they use a series of nasty conditionals to insert the attribute values into the text (as opposed to just referencing the actual attribute somehow). In my case, I could have hundreds of values in each attribute, so this is obviously undesirable.

Are these my only two options? Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks,

Brian

Brian,

You may want to ask this in the Structured FM forum, where more
readers will be in tune with your issue.

Brian,

You could use a prefix rule to display the values of the attributes:

EDD Version is 7.0
Automatically create formats on import.
Element (Container): FullName
General rule:	<EMPTY>
Valid as the highest-level element.
Attribute list
Name: FirstName String Optional
Default:	Brian
Name: LastName String Optional
Default:	Popp
Prefix rules
In all contexts.
Prefix: <$attribute[FirstName]> <$attribute[LastName]>

Would that work for you?

Jon

That worked perfectly. Thanks so much Jon!
