Index Formatting in FM 7.0

I have generated an index in Framemaker 7.0 but am not happy with the standard layout. The standard layout has the index entry on one line and all sub-entries on separate lines below it. The way I would prefer it is to have the main entry followed by a colon and then have the sub-entries on the same line, separated by semi-colons. Is this possible?

Example:
File: open, 4; save, 5

instead of how it is now:
File
   open, 4
   save, 5

No, not with the current set of tools. If the run-in paragraph style
were to also work in reverse, i.e. fall-back using the designated
separator to replace the paragraph marker from the previous paragraph,
then that would accomplish this functionality.

I'm not sure how useful this would be in an index though, as a long
set of subordinates collapsed in this manner would be quite difficult
to find a specific term in quickly. Some may consider this
user-hostile.

fwiw, the type of index Scott is looking for is called a "run-in style" as opposed to the "indented style".

umm, Scott, is this what you mean?

In the index, set the pagination for the Level2IX paratag to be "Run-in" and the default punctuation to be comma + space. Then regenerate index.

Sheila,

But wouldn't setting all of the Level2IX entries result in the last
Level2IX in any subordinate group to then run into the next Level1IX
entry? ;-)

I could swear I've done run-in indexes in FM before ...

test, test, test...
