I've been asked to a content management system for a model agency. Its been in gestation for some time, and most of the research time has been learnign how to create image uploads using imagemagick, GD and ther crap. The daft decision to ditch DC from Golive CS forced me to try to learn more and more PHP coding, which has had the happy side effect that now I do proper coding. However the one thing that still escapes me is a nice, easy "recordset pager" and fast visual development, that Golive 6 gave me. So crunch time came. The project actualy needed to come together. I had a choice. Forice myself to learn Dreamweaver at very short notice, or drop back to Golive6 and try to remember how to make it work. So I went with the devil I know. So it still has problems updating templates when the page has Dymanic Content on it. And you do need to have pored throguh th manuals a bit to make it work properly. But in a very short space of time I have a prototype site up and running. Invaluable Adobe, I know you don't give a toss. You had a useful product. You killed it.Silly, silly silly silly silly...

Cee, >>one thing that still escapes me is a nice, easy "recordset pager" << Have a look on http://www.phpclasses.org There are lots of ready-made classes to help with that one

I have. I still don't find them 1/2 as easy to get up adn running quickly as Golive. Its the visual thing. I've played with PEAR, ADODB, a number of others. But wen speed is of the essense, GL6 still wins.

I also have to say the GL6 Libraries were most excellent in their integration. I use 6 for most new stuff and Zend to tweak it. For the quick stuff just use BBEdit.

I'm even still using the GL libraries in GL CS. Just copied the lot and then type the php code into the template. I wish it could have been easier to maintain the dynamic sites I created with GL 6.... Anyway, a programmer is busy setting up a CMS framework in PHP for us now, and then we'll use GL 7 for design purposes only. In short, Adobe's decision to ditch DC cost us a few thousand dollars, but it set us on the road to a completely other (hand coding) direction in creating websites. And I must say, the CSS support in GL CS is excellent. Jeroen

Generally I agree. But one thing that bugs me is if you use the % option in a CSS the layout goes all to hell. Since I've been examining the way the code work in Golive, the more respect I have for it. And also the more I realise it can do with some hand tweaks. I guess I'll browse throough and find my own libraries, but I do miss the visual aspect of 6. I find it hard to "see" a page when its a bunch of PHP tags...

I find it hard to "see" a page when its a bunch of PHP tags...
Click on View (next to Inspector), the click on Default Set for Visibility. Poof. PHP tags gone.
It's fairly simple, but it is also a neat way to poof away the layout grid as well, form elements and the like so you can get a clean view of the layout.
