I guess I misunderstood you then, probably due to my lack of experience with Free Hand, but I see your point now... If you would be able to take all tools like ellipsee, polygons, rectangles and so forth, and convert them to a selection, you would have a very powerful tool at your hands.

But can we agree that the selection methods today areridiculousus in Illustrator? ;)
