Sorry, I posted a message but cannot find where it went. Is there a tool to create a swirl that looks like a tornado - bigger on top and swirls smaller to bottom ... in vertical format. I didn't understand the postings in the previous swirl posting. Thank you.

Try mapping diagonal lines and stuff onto a 3D cone-shaped object. Probably best to use smallish bits for the diagonal stuff so you don't get into trouble with the joins. <http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=1B5yS8tg4cZz9KPzX9vXvbSkrydqw0> Here's a 3D spiral on a transparent cylinder that I did some years ago using Dimensions (RIP). This used long diagonals but you can do the same sort of thing with many short bits. Mapping is more difficult in Illy and your cone- or funnel-shaped object will have multiple surfaces, but you can probably get away with one or two symbols, distorting them to fit the surfaces.

Use the Spiral Tool to draw a spiral. Then use the Reshape Tool to "stretch" it like a spring. Then apply whatever effects (ArtBrush, etc.) you want to the resulting path: ReshapeSpiral.pdf <http://www.illustrationetc.com/AIbuds/ReshapeSpiral.pdf> JET

<http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=1kbxgjQAFjE7UzMmWtdiexUdLZ43> Here's what I just did with a bit of mapping on a funnel. On the left is the 3D object (selected). in the middle is the symbol stuff. On the right is an expanded version, fine tweaked after expanding. Not quite perfect - you can see a join at the top right of the funnel - but it seems a promising way of doing things.
