Help with installing Illustrator

I have a new Mac with snow leopard and can't install Illustrator 10
because the installer crashes.

However, according to the post at the link below, it can be installed
on an older mac and the files can be copied to the new mac and it runs
ok. The problem is I don't have an older mac and I need someone with
an older mac to assist me. I have the Illustrator 10 disc and legal
serial number. I would need someone to download and install on an
older mac and then upload the resulting files to me. Is there anyone
out there willing to help?

What you are thinking of is the ability to migrate in OS X. You can
migrate accounts and software from one Mac to another. This would
allow you to migrate Illustrator 10, but I am not sure about system
compatibility. If it's not compatible, you may have to upgrade.

Asking for someone to upload the resulting files after an install is
vague and will not work.

In the link above, he/she said that it worked after copying it from
the old mac via firewire. Instead of firewire, I would just use the
internet. After installation, the adobe illustrator folder can be
zipped using stuffit or something and then transferred to my computer
where I could decompress it. Why wouldn't this work?

It won't work because Illustrator installs many files in many places
outside of the applications folder. Some lighter apps will allow this,
but not Illustrator.

No disrespect intended, but have you actually tried it? In the link
above, both kim_w and Nini claim it will work, and kim_w claims to
actually have done it successfully.

The link you posted is from two years ago. Hardware and software have
moved forward since then. It's time to upgrade Illustrator. Sounds
like it was sketchy at best back then...

How new is your Mac? What model is it? What OS are you running?
Illustrator 10 is not really compatible with 10.5, I doubt it would
work well, if at all, in 10.6.

To get Illustrator 10 on to a system that it will not install on, the
only other option is to migrate it.

Snow Leopard will not run Classic, so that's not an option either.

Yes, the link is two years ago and hardware and software have moved
forward since then. But there are other considerations before
deciding it's time to upgrade Illustrator.

Here is a post on Adobe Forums and the latest post dated just a few
months back saying Illustrator 10 runs on Snow Leopard.

All this doesn't really matter anyway. I respect your right to
disagree. I am still just looking for someone with a PowerPC to
assist me in the migration process.

If you don't mind reporting back, I'm curious to see how well
Illustrator 10 works in Snow Leopard.

That thread brings up a good point, did you install 10.6 with Rosetta?
When you find a Mac you can migrate it from, it's actually quite
simple. Just Target Mode the old Mac and run the Migration Utility on
the 10.6 Mac.
