(AI10) Selection Tool behaving funny....

Somehow, the selection tool (V), started to act as the direct selection tool, that is, it doesn't show the object bounds and I can't resize, rotate or whatever anymore. I have to select the object, and go to Transform>Scale and so on, wich is very annoying. 

I've tried re-installing AI10, but the problem persists... what the heck is going on??
