Is it possible to automate actions and save files?

I have 20 files say.
I need to have 3 different sizes of each image saved as 1a.jpg, 1b.jpg,
1c.jpg, 2a.jpg, 2b.jpg, 2c.jpg etc.

I've been told that this is possible with ImageReady.

I'm not sure where to start.

Any help would be appreciated.
