Is there any hope that at some point InCopy will embed fonts? We deal with internal clients who are on PC (we're on mac) and It's frustrating trying to explain to them why the text looks "funny" on their end. Please, pretty please, with sugar on top someone tell me that incopy will at some point be able to embed fonts so that our clients may see on their PCs what we see on our Macs.

Your InCopy users need to have the same fonts loaded and active in their systems as you do (well, just the ones in the stories they're editing). That's part of the set-up of the workflow. Even if the IC users were on Macs just like you, they'd need to have the fonts loaded.

Font embedding is only possible with PDFs (and some web sites, actually).

This has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that they're using
Windows and you are using Macs.

The same problem would exist if they were on Macs and didn't have the
proper fonts. In fact, the same problem would exist if you were using Word.

I suggest adopting a workflow based entirely on opentype fonts which
will eliminate the only possible hurdle here since they are totally
crossplatfom.

Thanks guys. It's just wishful thinking on my part. I work for an association where any sort of installations (both fonts and software) have to go through a bunch of red tape with the IT dept (especially when it comes to the PCs). All this makes it harder to sell the concept here. I'm all about ease of use, especially for the editorial staff who shouldn't have to worry or care about font installations on their PCs.

My question again is Adobe going to even consider the idea of embedded fonts in the workflow?

I doubt it. There are licensing issue to think about above and beyond
the technical issues.

Don't hold your breath.

It's unfortunate that Adobe won't consider having fonts embedded into the InCopy files as they are with PDF's. I have the same issue in my office. Designers are on Mac, editors are on PC's. PC users don't have access to all the fonts available to the Mac users. We do own the Adobe Type library, but due to the projects we work on, we require many more font styles than what Adobe provides. It would be FANTASTIC if Adobe updated InCopy to embed fonts. Until it does, my office won't be using InCopy. We tried it. It only made more work, and headaches.

You'd have the same issue with PowerPoint files. Having properly
licensed fonts installed on all machines involved in a collaborative
workflow is just as important as the software itself.
