Hello, I've got strange effect with InCopy CS3 (5.0.3). 1) InCopy : open an indd file with incx objects into. 2) InDesign : simultaneously open the same indd file and make changes in an incx text (extract + archive). 3) InCopy : you get the "modified" icon for the incx text, make the update via the links tab. 4) InCopy : icon is now "free for all" but you can also make changes on the text without extracting him (and lost your modification if somebody realy extract the incx after you). I have the same problem on 2 different mac, can you reproduce ? Best regards, Michael

What is "extract and archive"? I'm wondering if this is a language/translation issue ... or maybe you're using a plugin such as K4 or Smart Connection?
Assuming by "extract" you mean "check out" and by "archive" you mean "save" ...
In InCopy, if the icon for a story is the Available one ("free for all" I'm guessing), then you should not be able to edit it without checking it out first. Sounds like a problem with server permissions.

Sounds like a possible permissions issue on the server. But could you be a bit more specific about the procedures you're using? I'm not familiar with the terms extract and archive in an InCopy workflow. Bob

Hello, I'm updating my message with correct translation 1) InCopy : open an indd file with incx objects into. 2) InDesign : simultaneously open the same indd file and make changes in an incx text (check out + save). 3) InCopy : you get the "modified" icon for the incx text, make the update via the links tab. 4) InCopy : icon is now "available" but you can also make changes on the text without checking it out (and lost your modification if somebody realy check out the incx after you). The problem only occur when the update is made by the links tab but don't if made by the menu "File/updating content". Can you reproduce ? Michael
