I edit stories for four different periodicals, plus various special projects (book chapters, for example), all of which are proofread in paper format by the same proofreader. During any given period, the proofreader and I may be working on articles or chapters for five different publications. This, as you can imagine, requires careful tracking, particularly at the proofreading stage, to ensure a specific article gets into the correct article bank/issue folder for use in InDesign. In MS-Word, we have used a simple header or "slug" that appears at the top of every article/chapter. It bears such vital information as filename, destination folder/article bank, author, whether I've edited the piece, whether the piece has been proofread and corrected, and date. For our weekly publication, which we still write and edit in Word and design in Quark XPress, it is a simple matter of simply cutting the header text once the story is brought into the page design software (since the writers and editors are also doing layout, having to cut the tracking header is not a problem). However, we have made the transition to InCopy/InDesign for our other publications, which are designed by a design staff, not editors. We want to make sure no header information accidentally makes its way into a design. Is there a way of adding a header/slug with the essential tracking data needed by the proofreader and me, that prints, but does not import into InDesign. As a new user of InCopy, I have looked for such a function but have been unable to find one. Thanks.
