InCopy, InDesign Pagination with large documents

Our users create long InDesign Documents, separated into shorter documents. Each shorter document is paginated as a group of pages which are part of the longer document. Each shorter document has an assignment of InCopy stories. In the assignment, the Incopy pages do not reflect the unique pagination of the separate InDesign documents. Instead each InCopy assignment is paginated from page 1.

How can I get each Assignment file to paginate the same as it's respective InDesign file? The assignment file has the page number place holders that exist in the InDesign file, but the assignment only shows its internal page numbering (starting from 1) not the page numbering relative to the larger InDesign document (s).

Can anyone help with this issue? It is becoming quite important. Thanks in advance.
