Allocating more memory to InDesign?

Can anyone help me by walking me through the steps of making Windows
Vista give more memory to InDesign when I am using it so that
performance is faster? I have a very large document, 55 megabytes and
somewhere around 45 it started choking up a lot. Now it's taking me
twice as long to do anything in the program, my cursor just waits
until the program responds when I tell it to move around and click,
select, etc.
