I tried to download this from the Adobe Labs, but I am using MX 2004 at work and a flash 8 key is required to install. Also, since my request to be a Flash beta tester must have been lost in the mail, eaten by the Adobe corporate dog or filed in the round filing cabinet next to someones desk I don't think I'll get a peek any time soon if any of our years of Flash complaints are being taken to heart. So I was hoping of those of us left around here has had a peek if they would be willing to share what they have seen.

Shawn, I've got MX 2004 too, so I guess I won't be checking it out either.

Yo Shawn, I have F9 alpha installed here. As best I can tell, it is F8 with compile time support for AS3 and that's it. I've actually not worked to much with either F8 or F9 - These days I mostly work in Flex2 - but from my limited exposure to the F8 IDE, it doesn't seem all that different from FMX2004. The big deal with F9 is AS3, which is a completely different beast from AS1/AS2. If you are not doing a lot of coding, I don't think you would find F9 alpha to be very interesting. But if you do a lot of coding and would like to get intimate with AS3, then you might want to take Flex2 for a test drive -- you'll loose the whole Flash IDE, but have a really nice IDE for writing AS3 code. Hope that helps. -Bo

Hey Bo I do coding and design right now with 2004, but most of the coding isn't all that complex. I've not checked out Flex previously, so I will look into it. It could fit the bill for a project we are proposing based on the little bit I know of it. I checked out the flash 8 demo recently at home and it wasn't much different from 2004. As for keeping my hopes up with Flash 9, I guess I will just have to wait and see as usual :-|

Flash9 has not been officially released yet, so I don't know if the UI has changed as a result of Adobe now running the shop. The version available is as a public alpha and the UI is identical to Flash8. The only difference is support for version 9 of the FlashPlayer (ActionScript 3). -Bo
