PageMaker File does not open

My large PageMaker 6. 5 File (about 420 MB) does not open, the message is Error 1.

I am working on iMac with MacOS 9.2.2 with built in memory 384 MB, Virtual memory 385MB and largest Unused block 298 MB.

The small PageMaker file opens OK.

Is my large file corrupted (and if, could it be repaired?) or it is the problem with my computer without enough of memory?

How in the world did you create a PM file that large?

That your PageMaker file is that large suggests that you have Save Faster rather than Save Smaller set in your preferences. This is the most likely cause of your problem. How much memory do you have allocated to PageMaker? Try making that at least 50MB (if it is smaller than that, or larger even, although my memory is that after about 50MB it didn't matter how much you gave PageMaker.

Also, check the links manager, and make sure the links to all of the graphics are good, and check that no images are stored in the PM file. After you do that, do a Save-As, and your document size should go down. Anything over 10 or maybe 15 MB is too big for PM, so break it up into chapters if you need.

Of course this won't help this document if you can't open it, but if you plan to continue using PM, this is what you need to do to lessen the likelihood of future documents not opening.
