My service bureau accepts any but prefers native files. Do they have a rationale for that? He likes having the ability to quickly tweak something that someone has set up incorrectly so he can get the film out rather than making his clients set up and bring or send a whole new file. Plus he hangs on to the files for a while so that when a client (like me) gets back to their office and takes a close look at the film and finds a typo, the client can call him, have him fix it and reoutput the film immediately. My SB is dedicated to providing service, and he does. I'm inclined to think that maybe I and him are using different fonts with the same name. Is this possible? Entirely. I've had it happen too. But if your doc is set up properly and you provide postscript laser proofs, it should be their problem to fix it, not yours. It should be their responsibility to make sure the output looks like your proofs - and to catch reflows and such before handing you film or a finished printed product. When my SB outputs film for me and I find an error like a typo, well, then I pay for the new film of course. But when the film comes out different from the proofs - even if the problem was my own failure to include a font in the package - the SB eats the film cost because he should have caught the problem before sending it to his imagesetter. That should be part of the service we're paying so dearly for. Donald
