Event ID 1002 is one of those hard to track errors in Windows 2000, which can be caused by a corrupt user profiles, DCHP network problems, invalid explorer shortcuts and is more typically found when Internet Explorer 5.01 SP2 is upgraded to IE 5.5 SP2 or IE 6.

This is not a Pagemaker / Distiller problem per se, but can be provoked by them.

Recommendations:

Look here http://www.atlantictechsolutions.com/pmfaq1.html <http://www.atlantictechsolutions.com/pmfaq1.html> for all the details on installing Windows 2000 and Pagemaker 6.5 AND 7.0.

Despite Windows Update insistence that updating IE 5.5 SP2 is a "critical update", it does not really offer many enhancements from IE 5.01 SP2, which is installed with Service Pack 2.

I am recommending clients stick with IE 5.01SP 2, with the post SP2 updates and hotfixes listed on Windows Update. This has been the most stable, trouble free combination on Windows 2000 in my experience. In a couple of instances, I have reinstalled Windows 2000 completely to revert to IE 5.01 SP2 for stability/nug fix reasons.

Hope that helps, Peter
