I create files with InDesign CS (Windows XP platform) which I often need to send to different devices (printing press, screen display, inkjet proofing printer, etc). Components in the original file can be placed TIFF, EPS, PSD, AI, and other files. Some are CMYK, others RGB, but all placed files are tagged with ICC profiles for Color Management. Text is usually defined as Black Only using the default black swatch in ID. When creating a PDF file with Acrobat 6 Pro, I usually want the entire PDF to be sRGB for screen output, or final CMYK of the printing device. The problem is that Black or Grayscale components are converted to CMYK builds during PDF conversion. This is a disaster for black text and fine lines when sending the job to a press. How can I keep my blacks and grayscales from showing up on the CMY plates? (I don't like to leave color unchanged, since images may be tagged with multiple profiles, which often confuses commercial printers). Suggestions? Solutions? If possible, I would love it if Adobe could add a checkbox in all their applications which would leave blacks alone when going to specific CMYK destination space, so they stay on the Black Plate Only. Thanks, Lou
