Small change to the Tabs feature

I would like to be able to open several images from which I'm assembling different layers in Tabs and then drag a layer from the currently active image onto a Tab of another image to add it to that image's Layer Panel. As far as I can figure out I still need to have both windows visible to drop a layer from one onto another image. That means I need one of them to be a floating window.

I will second Welles' request. Since I frequently drag layers, having to float the windows in order to do that defeats the purpose of tabbing them.

I also support this request being able to drag-&-drop on closed tabs would be a most welcome enhancement.

Yup. For this reason tabbed documents in Photoshop are useless to me.

Yes, this would be a useful addition to the new tabbed interface choice. As long as we don't ever lose the essential retouchers ability in Full Screen to scroll the image past the edge boundaries.

Try dragging and dropping from the Layers panel of one image to the tab of another image. They tried to get drag and drop from within windows working but couldn't get it engineered in time. But as I remember it, dragging from the layers panel to another tab works.

Hi Jeff,

I just tried out your suggestion and for me it didn't seem to work. That would be a perfect solution for my wish. Dropping a layer on another tab and have it copied into that image file and appear in the Layers palette would be ideal.

Nope its not implemented yet that one, being able to drag content to tabs either from layers panel or image would be useful.

Duplicate Layer (to a file in another tab) works pretty well in the meantime.

Maybe I'm missing something but with the app frame active/documents as tabs I can drag a layer from the canvas of an open image to the tab of another document and have it placed. If I keep the mouse button down as I move over the 2nd document tab that document will come in focus (open) and I can drop the layer. There is a little bit of a delay opening the 2nd document, but it does open and the layer is placed.

Interesting, JWeber. Thanks for pointing that out. I've never dragged from the canvas itself but the layers palette and it doesn't work there. Nothing appears to work if you aren't using the Application Frame but rather several images tabbed but floating.

Yes everything is fortunately amazingly stable in CS4, but it doesn't look like they had enough time to implement some features and do the polishing work.
