Please Redesign the Adjustments Panel

The Adjustments Panel is totally superfluous with its unneccessary list of Presets and plethora of adjustment layer selection symbolsall of which are more effectively managed through the single icon on the bottom of the layers palette.

The Adjustment Panel does need to be modifiable so that we see ONLY the actual Curve, levels, Hue/Sat sliders etc., when appropriate, and have the OPTION to keep the introductory "Add an Adjustment" part of it CLOSED permanently.

The current design of the panel is a ridiculous waste of desktop space and is entirely unnecessary for anyone but a Photoshop neophyte.

Seconded. Thank you Anne for this community service.

Give us a legacy palettes option in the preferences that function as in PS CS3 (particularly for adjustment layers and Curves with former keyboard shortcuts for point placement and navigation). Without generalizing, I've been using CS4 almost exclusively since it became available, and while I greatly appreciate a lot of its enhanced functionalities that I'm discovering, I do find PS CS3 a more congenial, all around working environment.

Agree with Ann, Ralph, and Ramn.

Here's my suggestion in the future for casual Photoshop users who haven't been bothered to learn basic skills like Adjustment layers and masking a splash screen accessible maybe with a large, glowing, openGL animated menu item - This splash screen says

want to create a new document?
 What IS the rubber stamp?
learn a simple trick for changing document borders using the paint bucket tool
learn how to scratch your a&se

and so on

Bottom line is, make new features an option instead of killing the most basic and important feature.

perhaps some of you might like to visit john nack's blog and give him your thoughts, seeing as his attitude was that critics should judge only after using it, seemingly confident that the UI was going to be a vast improvement.

I don't agree with the title of this thread "redesign the adjustment panel". The request should say, give us back the old way and then you can keep working on the adjustment panel, because whatever you do with it, we don't rely on it.

Hi Ann- you probably have this worked out already, but here's the best work around that I have to step backwards to CS3.

1. Make sure that pref- 'auto collapse iconic panels' is on,

2. I orient the adjustment panel to the most left position of the panels so that I get the curve back towards my image area and not off in right field. And, make sure that the panel is minimized/closed to an icon.

3. Choose your adjustment layer option as you did in CS3 at the bottom of the layers panel. The curve, levels etc opens in the adjustment panel, make your changes and click on another layer to dismiss and close the adjustment panel.

This will avoid ever having the presets or silly field of icons visible.

hope this helps.
